Located in the mountainous terrain bordering Laos and Thailand, the East Myanmar Region is home to one of Myanmar’s most beautiful natural wonders, Inle Lake. Due to its altitude, this region offers a cooler climate than many other parts of the country.
The people of this region make their incomes in a variety of ways, including mining, fishing and farming. There is also a large honey industry. In the state of Shan, which is strategically located in the notorious "golden triangle," many residents grow poppies, which are used to make opium.
